Guitar box or cardboard box
If you need to send a guitar by courier, there are a few steps that you need to take, in order for your instrument to arrive in perfect condition.
When sending a guitar, the first step to packaging a guitar for shipping is to loosen off the strings, as in the event of them snapping, they could damage or scratch the guitar.
When you send a guitar, ensure that you place a cloth or a layer of bubble wrap between the fret and the strings, this will reduce the risk of any abrasion from the strings.
Wrap the guitar in bubble wrap and then place it into the hard case, this will prevent it from chaffing on the side walls of the case. Put a further layer of bubble wrap or foam under the neck to support it during transit.
Fill any voids or gaps in the case with foam packaging peanuts, or bubble wrap. This is to prevent movement whilst the guitar courier is transporting the instrument.
Put a layer of bubble wrap over the face of the guitar and the tuning keys and close the case securely. Wrap the case in bubble wrap and secure in place with parcel tape.
Find a suitable sized box to pack your guitar into, these can often be found free at a good guitar or music shop. Insert your guitar into the box and fill any voids with bubble wrap or packaging peanuts and securely seal the box shut, then attach your parcel label to the box.
