Overland Express are a specialist carrier for paint, so if you need to send paint within the UK, Europe, or Worldwide, we have many cost effective delivery options available. Read on for information on how to send paint.
We have been sending paint, with our partners DHL, UPS, and Parcel Force, on their extensive domestic and European road networks, for over 30 years.
When shipping paint, there are a few things to consider, whilst DHL are able to send paint through their network, they do have restrictions, so we have listed them as follows.
You can ONLY send water based paint and emulsions worldwide via DHL and UPS. They will NOT accept flammable, non water based paints. If in doubt, please DO NOT select DHL or UPS as the carrier. Our UPS specialist service is for non water based paints within the UK only.
A cardboard box must be used for the outer packaging due to COVID-19 handling restrictions.
Oil based paints, varnishes, gloss and undercoats, lacquers, wood preservatives and treatments, heat proof paint and stove paint, car paints, anti-foul, floor paints and sealers, aerosols, wood stains, worktop oils and any other flammable or hazardous paints, can only be sent in limited quantities. The limits are Parcel Force, 15kg per box, UPS 5kg per box, throughout the UK only (excluding Northern Ireland). These cannot be sent by air, or outside of the UK Mainland. If you are in any doubt, please contact us.
To send paint, please refer to our packing instructions below.
Before sending paint, please read our packing instructions below carefully, as we cannot insure paints, or accept any responsibility or liability for any damage caused during transit.
Place a layer of packing on the base of the box, then place the item onto the packaging and fill any gaps with packing material. This reduces the chance of the liquid delivery moving around during transit. Shake the box to check that the liquid you are sending cannot move about. If necessary, add more packing material until it is securely held in place.
Furthermore, as we benefit from being a volume purchaser from the likes of DHL, UPS and Parcel Force, we get preferential rates, which in turn, we pass on to you.
To start saving huge sums of money on all of your paint deliveries, please take a look at our great rates that are available through the 'Send a Parcel' tool above. And remember, If it is not water based, please select UPS Specialist or Parcel Force. Please note: DHL can only carry non-hazardous water-based paint.
Shipping paint internationally
Sending paint overseas is pretty much the same as sending it throughout the UK, the only difference is that you will require Customs documentation, this is generated automatically during the booking process. Please note that you can only send water based paints outside of the UK mainland. You may also be liable for Customs duty on the paint's arrival into the destination Country.
How to Send Paint by Courier
Prerequisites:
Bubble wrap
Parcel tape
Strong cardboard box
Packing peanuts
A cardboard box must be used for the outer packaging due to COVID-19 handling restrictions.
When you send paint, make sure the metal paint container holding the paint is sealed tightly, using paint tin clips. Then securely band the tin in two directions, using a band-it strapping tool. If you do not have access to one of these, use reinforced parcel tape or duct tape, again, applied in two directions, to securely hold the lid in place.
Once this is done, wrap the tin with bubble wrap and secure with parcel tape. The tin must then be placed into a secure polythene bag, with a cable tie to secure it closed. This is in the event that if the tin did leak, the paint will stay inside the polythene bag.
Place the tin inside a double wall cardboard box and fill the cardboard box with packing peanuts. Make sure there are enough peanuts in the box to keep the paint container from moving around during transit.
If you are sending 2.5 ltr paint tins, or larger (maximum 5 ltr), these must be packed in separate boxes. No more than one tin per box.
Seal the cardboard box with packing tape and shake it to make sure the paint container is firmly in place. If you can hear it moving about, add more packing peanuts to fill any voids.
Finally, either write the delivery address on the finished box, or attach an address label.
